The Tune from Sequin
Play It Again at Sequin Light
Just off the coast of Georgetown is Sequin Light, the highest above sea level light and home to one of the most horrifying haunting tales. Although not quite in the Boothbay Region it is not far and is too great of a story to not blog.
Lighthouse keeping was not for the ones who scared easily...
Men usually kept busy with required work but women often were extremly board lonely and isolated. A newlywed keeper brought his bride with him to Sequin Light. She complained so often of boredom and loneliness that he ordered her a piano form the mainland to help her occupy her time. She was delighted with his gift but the piano came with only one sheet of music. She played the sheet repeatedly for the duration of the long, cold, isolated winter making her husband extremely irritated and mad. Spring came and he purchased new sheet music, but she would only play the one tune.
Driven insane he took an ax to the piano and to her, decapitating her before he killed himself.
Locals still say that on a cold night they can hear the tinkle of her piano and the keeper doing his duties.
